Welcome - from the President

Victor Angelo Molinari, PhD, ABPP

I would like to welcome all those who have come to this site with an interest in becoming board certified in geropsychology. Geropsychology is the newest ABPP specialty, and the ABGERO board believes that the time has come to credential those individuals who have the proper education, supervised training, and work experience to be competent in working with the mental health problems of older adults.

On the menu tabs to the left, are links to our Procedures manual which will give you the exact details of the application process. We also have added a file that gives answers to Frequently Asked Questions, and you can get to meet a board certified geropsychologist by clicking on the appropriate link. ABGERO is making a special effort to reach out to young clinicians working with older adults, and ABPP happily has an Early Entry option which allows students to bank their credentials while in graduate school and helps pave the way for more exact planning to meet the criteria become board certified.

Please note that we have a mentoring program which we strongly advise applicants to take advantage of. ABPP has found that being mentored takes the anxiety out of some of the process by providing a clear path regarding what must be accomplished in order to become a specialist. ABGERO is committed to work with applicants to either get them through the process or identify the areas of weaknesses that must be remedied before one can be credentialed.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions about this process, your qualifications, and if you desire to be assigned a mentor. Email me at vmolinari@usf.edu
